March 1 "Beautilful Babies and Loveable Learners"

Well, well, well. Welcome to another day and month. Let me tell you the memorable parts of this day in March. Let’s start off with the positives, shall we? Well, I started off my morning with tutoring R&J. Man, am I getting good at my letters! Oh, and the kids are, too. J Next, we moved into a productive English lesson with the ladies. I end each class with a conversation period with the higher level learners, and after I had covered everything I wanted to in the conversation part, I asked the ladies if they wanted to talk about anything. S told me she just wanted to say thank you because she is really enjoying the classes and learning so much and packing her head so full! It’s every teacher’s dream to hear that! J Before class, Pastor K found us, too, and invited us over to his house tomorrow to meet his family. His daughter B is in our tutoring and he said that each day she comes home saying how much she’s learned! What great feedback! We were flying high after comments like those today! Oh, and another highlight of English was that I got to hold little 6 month old cute as can be baby M, S’s daughter for the last 20 minutes while the ladies were writing. She fell asleep in my arms. J I’ve wanted to hold the babies since I got here and today was surely my day! So cute! J, one of our tutorees, told me she wants a tattoo just like mine when she gets older. And I got my run in right before the rain came pouring down. Good timing! J Alright, on to the not so positives of the day, but still noteworthy: the afternoon tutoring group now thinks I’m crazy because I went inside to get something and got distracted by all the frogs and tried to catch them….And during my session with A, she brought along P, a one year old boy who also lives on campus. She must have been watching him, although she is 9. Anyway, he was really dirty when he came to tutoring, but I didn’t think anything of it. Soon, the flies started swarming him, so I picked him up and held him to shoo them away while I was teaching A. Well, low and behold, P was dirty because he had wet himself. And now since he had been sitting on lap for 20 minutes falling asleep, I had a lovely wet spot on my clothes. Bugs kept swarming—about 20!—though, and I couldn’t take it anymore, so I put him back on the bench for the last few minutes. During this time, he got off the bench, stood on the ground, peed and pooped himself all over the ground, laid his head on the bench, and took a nap. Guess who got to clean up when he was gone? Yup, that’s right. Apparently God wanted me to experience the joys, and pains, of motherhood today (or something like that). A few other things I noticed today: 1) Pollution is a problem in Lusaka. It is difficult to drive with your windows open during traffic because of all the exhaust. 2) I feel like such an American when I use my debit or credit cards at stores. EVERYONE here uses cash for EVERYTHING. They don’t have card machines at most of the check outs, so using your card takes extra time. This takes getting used to because it’s the opposite of the U.S. 3) We passed a truck on the road today that’s been stuck in a tree (at the top) since Sunday. 4) Power outage number four occurred tonight. Only a little over an hour, though.
